Why is '10,000 followers for $5' a math problem, not a deal?
Do the arithmetic on the headline offers and they fall apart before you even ask whether they are safe. '10,000 followers for $5' is not a bargain; it is a confession about what is being sold.
Five dollars for ten thousand of anything means each unit costs a twentieth of a cent. There is no version of a real human being — with a real account, real attention, and a real chance of ever caring about you — that can be acquired for a twentieth of a cent. The price alone tells you these are not people.
What five dollars can buy is a database entry: an instruction sent to a farm of bot accounts to add your handle to their follow list for as long as they survive. The cost is that low because the 'product' costs almost nothing to manufacture and is worth almost nothing to own.
Compare it to the honest cost of real attention. Reaching ten thousand genuinely interested people — through good content, or through legitimate ads — costs real money, because their attention is genuinely scarce and genuinely valuable. Anything wildly cheaper is wildly less real.
Price is one of the clearest signals in this whole market. When the number is impossible, the product is too.
